We are writing to you today because you took the time to sign a petition on New Mode with one of our affiliate organizations in solidarity with Palestine. Thank you so much for signing, your efforts are very much appreciated.

We would like to welcome you to VanGran4Palestine. This group started in the Vancouver Granville federal riding of Vancouver and takes its direction from the Pal Solidarity network, which has organized 39 swing ridings across Canada to pressure Liberal MPs to support policy in favour of Palestine. On May 7, unions and civil society organizations across the country launched Arms Embargo Now— a cross-sectoral campaign calling on the federal government to impose a full and immediate arms embargo on Israel. Since launching, the campaign has garnered the support of 400+ unions and civil society organizations, and has secured the support of close to 40 Members of Parliament from across party lines.

Unfortunately our MP for Vancouver-Granville, Taleeb Noormohamed, is not one of them.

With a growing number of Liberal MPs supporting this demand, we are asking our Vancouver-Granville community to make their voices heard and pressure our MP to sign onto the letter calling for a full and immediate arms embargo on Israel.

For 7 months we have been calling on the Canadian government to take decisive action to stop Israel’s assault on Gaza. More than 35,000 Palestinians have been killed during this genocidal campaign, including 15,000 children. Instead, Canada continues to fund this massacre by buying millions in Israeli weapons and continues its existing military export permits to Israel. Canada must fulfill its obligations under the Arms Trade Treaty and the Genocide Convention by declaring and ratifying a two-way arms embargo.

This country has both a moral and legal obligation to do everything in its power to prevent genocide. Minister Noormohamed, your constituents are watching, history is watching, and millions of lives are at stake. I urge you to join the millions of Canadians, including your fellow Liberal Party members, and do the right thing. We’ll remember where you stood when we go to the polls during the next federal election.

We’ll deliver our messages in person to his office, showing our strength as a collective to demand that he sign on to the letter calling for a two-ways arms embargo.
